What a fantastic band Kingmaker were, an Indie band with grit, along with the true melodic dynamism only a trio can achieve. They were delivering quality music at a time when the indie scene mainly offered you the lightweight C-86 charm or come-hither-pop desperation. Kingmaker were more in the nonchalant brilliance camp a la Mega City Four. Quality ideas, lyrics and delivery. 1991 was the year of their sleek, bristling debut album “Eat Yourself Whole” and three cracking EPs - ‘The Celebrated Working Man’, ‘Waterproof’ and ‘Two Headed’ plus the ‘When Lucy’s Down’ single. Awesomeness. And they still exist today.
