ON THIS DAY ... in 1989 - D-A-D (Disneyland After Dark)
36 photos from the Roskilde festival, 1989
A weird one for me. I saw them quite by chance, supporting Ghost Dance at the Riverside studios, Hammersmith. They bought a brass bed onstage as a prop, and ended with bassist Stig, dressed as a US motorbike cop, igniting fireworks off his motorcycle helmet. That made an impression, but so did the punchily melodic, ironic approach. Rock, obviously, but with a wealth of ideas. The review led to me being invited to interview them in Copenhagen (for a promo thing being used in America) and review them at Roskilde, where they headlined triumphantly. Cool blokes, great records, fantastic live.
Tomorrow I bring you 27 photos of Purple Under Melted Pink at the Falcon in 1991.
