It was dark. Weirdly dark, which would continue for a few days. I have no idea why but it certainly didn’t make taking photos easy as I have always been allergic to using flash.

First up we had BABY TRIO, who had some very odd instruments and ideas, with a theatrical bent, but if you were aiming to try something different then Jon Beast was always the guy to try and accommodate you. They were so entertaining I actually did a little interview with them for Melody Maker.

We’ll get back ot them in a minute. The other band I saw that night were PENNY CANDLES. They were serious indie types, with the drummer from The Housemartins, although they aren’t mentioned on his discogs page so I daresay he didn’t stay with them long. You can’t see him anyway. Dark, remember?
