Wake a few hours after the Big Storm, having slept through the actual event, because you have to go into Melody Maker. Not you, me. It’s not like everyone could go there. Not big enough. The BBC were broadcasting from what looked like it was inside a cupboard, all very strange. Out in the street the first thing I had to do was assist some motorists in heaving trees out of the road. Then I got the bus and rode the top deck surveying the chaos from Finchley Central into town, seeing once solid streets somehow opening up into a patchwork of empty space now that so many trees had been flattened. Reviewed the Soho gig, went home, then back out in the evening for the intriguing Dustdevils, amazed by the damage.
