ALIEN SEX FIEND on top form again, and at the weird place that burned down. Not The Venue in New Cross, which is still going (an amazing feat for any place), but in Victoria. It actually opened in 1978 and closed abruptly in 1984. I don’t recall going in the 70’s but then it was trumpeted as being a Music Biz place, with a fancy restaurant, as it was owned by Virgin Records. I think that would have put anyone off. But it had a brilliant PA, a lovely wide stage and a big clear dancefloor area. It began to get itself a really good reputation in the early 80’s as a result, like a mini-Lyceum.
