Older readers (ancient, let’s be honest) might recognise a few of the colour shots, as they come from a session that led to Sex Gang gracing the first issue of Zigzag when it returned from the dead in 1983. The previous publisher had banned me from the office within three issues of me being Editor, which was dementated behaviour, although in that version of Zigzag I’d interviewed the band when they were known as Panic Button. With a new publisher keen to get a magazine off and running I felt Sex Gang were perfect cover material. They’d had the ‘Naked’ cassette, the ‘Beasts’ single (including the withdrawn sleeve featuring Diane Arbus photos), ‘Into The Abyss’, ‘Mauritia Mayer’ and ‘Sebastiane’ alongside the epic debut album “Song & Legend”. An intoxicating sound from a mesmerising band.
