ON THIS DAY ... in 1983 - FLESH FOR LULU and the crappy Gnasher glove puppet we all bought!
36 photos from Brixton Fridge, 24th November 1983
The Gnasher glove puppet might confuse some readers. Gnasher was Dennis The Menace’s dog, Dennis being a popular character from the Beano comic, and Gnasher actually being the better character. Growing up in Britain most kids bought the two main comics, Beano and Dandy, and a fondness for the main idiots therein stays with you. The puppet was a cover-mounted gift given away with the children's comic Beano during a big promotional push, and newsagents were full of them so it was hard to resist. Also clearly made for smaller hands, so damaged easily being made of the cheapest plastic carrier bag type material.
