You need to remember that back then we saw limited, and very controlled, use of electronics at gigs. You had various records by people, that weren’t replicated live, or stylishly subdued (Cabaret Voltaire, Human League) but not much in a propulsive manner. With the Fiends, and with Xmal, we got dashing sounds poured in over an already explosive human rhythm source. Be it a frisky rampage or a slower style, with added power, this was new territory. Four nutters coming together and turning a rickety promise into a full blown living experience.
