You might think this is just another band you’ve never heard of and there’s nothing worth considering, but not so. I only saw them this once and remember nothing about them but doing a little delving uncovers some interesting things. Also, I was on Panache fanzine manoeuvres this night alongside Eric (R.I.P.), Nick and Joan, so we were there for a reason, probably some kind of tip that they’d be worth seeing.
This band do have an entry on Discogs, by dint of contributing a track (‘To The Nile Sisters’) to a compilation on the United Dairies label called “Hoisting The Black Flag”. They must have been seen as serious artistic contenders as others on that nine track album include Lemon Kittens, Nurse With Wound, Whitehouse and Mental Aardvarks.
The line-up was Robert Haigh, Trevor Reidy, Deborah Harding and Trefor Goronwy, and when Goronwy left (to join This Heat) they later continued as a trio called Fole, releasing two singles and having a 2019 compilation. Haigh has been in a stack of bands since then, most recently Kote Line. Reidy played with Danielle Dax and was a member of Monochrome Set during the 90’s, drumming on five albums.
Sounds pretty chronic, lots of moaning and clattering! The Panache crew seem pensive.
