If it wasn’t for early Toyah pics being pretty rare I wouldn’t share these as I obviously hadn’t noticed I’d got the wrong shutter speed, and you can see the results! It’s almost comical. Of course this was a great time to see Toyah gigs, with a distinct proto-Goth vibe, atmosphere a key component alongside the imagery. 1979 and 1980 produced two classic albums in ‘Sheep Farming’ and ‘The Blue Meaning’. The singles seemed relentless - ‘Victims Of The Riddle’ ‘Sheep Farming EP’, ‘Neon Womb’, ‘Bird In Flight’, ‘Danced’, ‘Ieya’ … and the people you saw at these gigs were the same people you’d see at Ants, UK Decay and Bauhaus gigs. People sought the darkness out.
