Death Of The Silver Surfer #1, Imperial #1, The World To Come #1, Spider-Girl #1, Umbrella Academy Plan B #1
At least two of these new titles are supposed to be 'important' but I have my doubts.
Or … not really, which you’d be expecting anyway. Not that it may not happen, or may happen, or isn’t supposed to happen. You know what I mean. I’m saying it’s hard to imagine, or tell, or even care about if I’m being honest. I’ve never been keen on the herald of Galactus, because he’s just so weird and detached from everything and everybody.
We have some multi-national with a former S.H.I.E.L.D agent working for them that they have tasked with offing the Surfer. She gets close and starts shooting him, which is never going to work, and then he ends up saving her life. This makes her unexpectedly angry and she’s keen to go after him again, but her boss tells her to wait and she’s to try and kill Hulk’s son instead.
All briskly done but essentially rather boring.

The tedium of inter-galactic diplomacy does eventually give way to some excitement, but this is a long comic with little to recommend it, no matter how much Marvel trumpet it as being vital to Marvel lore.
We’re in space, in what seems to be the far flung future, only Hulk and She-Hulk are here, how does that work? A large gathering of planetary rulers is planned, but suddenly top tyrants/kings are being murdered.
At the finish we learn the snip[er who kills people at the actual summit is from Wakanda, as were the bullets used, and war is beckoning.
The question is … so what? You’re plonked into something with little link to anything else you’re reading and this is just a power struggle high on complexity and very low on empathy or emotion.
If you like wordy comics it is heavy on that, and the art is rather nice, but otherwise this is a headache worth avoiding.

So, more inner squabbles and power struggles, this time to be the ruler of Wakanda, with the king pitted against his own son in combat, and losing. The son then stands revealed and appears to be white.
Nice surprise, so let’s see where this one goes.

People online seem to hate Spider-Girl, just as they continually slated Spider-Boy. Both are perfectly good characters and Spider-Boy (in which Spider-Girl first appeared) was a fun comic.
So is this. Maka is just hoping for a normal life, whilst also patrolling as Spider-Girl. She’s enrolled at the dojo Bullseye (her original mentor) recommended, but an evil doctor wants her studied, and sends giant rat creatures after her, with orders to kill. Maka’s power is she can control anybody/anything under certain circumstances, so ends up telling the rats to return home. The people observing her are impressed.
A cool start. It’s an all-ages comic so you can’t expect too much, but it’s a relaxing read.

I have watched the tv series and still really didn’t get what was happening here. Two teams, B vs the Sparrows, lots of fighty stuff and sarky dialogue. Cool wonky art. It’s pretty interesting. I think it’s a slow burner.
